(During the historic March on Washington held August 28, 1963, over 300,000 people traveled to Washington, DC as a united signal for unity, for social justice and racial equality. The day-long event culminated in the "I Have a Dream" speech that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered in front of the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall.
However, Dr. King first spoke the "I Have a Dream" speech in Detroit, Michigan at the "March to Freedom" march held in Detroit on June 23, 1963. It is said that over 200,000 people marched down Detroit's Woodward Avenue carrying placards and singing "We Shall Overcome." The march ended at Cobo Hall in downtown Detroit where Dr. King delivered his famous, "I Have a Dream" for the very first time.)
